I love that after almost 32 years together, I'm still so in love that when a hear a cool lyric that reminds me of my wife, I want her to know. I'm not super romantic, but I have my things. I'm not sure showering you with diamonds, flowers and "whatevers" would be near as charming as the kind of romance I provide.
So songs are my thing.
I had big fun the night you tried to guess the song. Flattered that you would really want to know so badly. But, honestly, I couldn't remember the bands name at the time (even though its very common to me) - so you may have actually guessed it.
The band is World Party. But honestly, its a song I know I've heard plenty of times before. But never paid much attention to or stuck out to me. But thanks to a nice cool evening, my iTunes, new Ear Pods and a walk from the train. I got to listen to it a bit differently. Then, boom, its one of our things.
I guess that is romantic. Its not sit-com romance or anything, but its got is romance. Heres how.....
I figure in my head I know that I am a few minutes from home. I'm a few minutes from you. A few minutes from the fun part of my day.
Since I miss you pretty much all day, this all seems plausible. I'm in that mood. Aching to see my bride. Anxious cause it is only a few fast walking steps from the train to the house. I'll see you soon. We'll hug. "Honey, I'm home" rings out somewhere. I can feel it.
Then this song that has been mostly innocuous to me for years comes on in my ears. Its a bit slower than I like for my walks, but its cold so changing songs requires hands out of my pockets.
"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah are you getting my vibe".....I like that line. OK, this song isn't so bad. "Thank you World" he sings (the title of the song).
Each step I get closer to home has me happier. Almost home. Crossing our street....then it happens.
Karl Wallinger (the singer) gets kind of quiet. He sings......and I stand at the gate frozen listening to his perfect voice, with the perfect tone and the perfect feeling say.....
She is everything I need
She is living guaranteed
She's what I mean when I say
Everything's alright
Shes got diamonds shes got pearls
Shes got wisdom
And this girl is all you need
To know that everything's alright
And I need to know that everything's alright
Amen Karl, amen. And boom, I'm in love all over again. "Honey, I'm home"
You're the world to me, I love you more than anything in the world
