The little things

Ok my love here goes, my first ever poem. It is only fitting I wrote it for you.

The sweet smell of pancakes
The light of your smile
The soft part below your ear
The sound of your laugh

Its the little things that find me so....

The grasp of your hand
Fingers locked together
Your cool skin
The softness of your fingertips

Its the little things that find me so....

An inside joke only we share
A memorable story we will never forget
A song that makes us both smile
A moment trapped in time

Its the little things that find me so....

The older daughters glow
Her endless energy and joy
The younger daughters sense of humor
Her pereceptive thoughts

Its the little things that find me so....

A hope for a million more days
A reminder they will come
A safety only you can offer
A trust you will always be there

Its the little things that find me so....

Its the little things that find me so happy

Its the little things that find me so alive

Its the little things that find me so hopelessly in love

I love you

How Lucky Are We?

In the next couple of weeks our fine family will be getting a temporary new member. I am not quite certain that this new member realizes just how lucky he is to be a part of this terrific family you have built for each of us. This is the family that you built. With every little detail you have crafted something special.

When he gets here he won't realize the meticulous detail you went through to make him feel at home. Setting up his room. Making sure he has a desk. Making sure he has food he likes. Right down to the little details like printing some pictures of his brothers so he feels more at home. How could he not feel immediately like a member of the family?

It isn't just him. You do this for all of us. The details you go to make our lives comfortable are pretty amazing. Here are some good examples.

  • Have you looked in the pantry lately? Everyone in our family has something in there selected by you for us. Something that is uniquely ours. The same goes for drinks. My tea, the older ones sport drinks, the younger ones root beer. Every detail covered.
  • How about the girls clothes? A perfect outfit for every shirt, pair of jeans and sweater. They always look beautiful because you dress them so. They are beautiful on their own, but you add the final touch of perfection.
  • How about my weekly packing? I never worry that I will get somewhere and be missing something. Outfits perfectly planned and ready for me when I need them.
  • How about birthdays? Who wouldn't feel special with the well thought out gifts and surprises you provide. I'll never forget how perfectly the car thing went.
  • Christmas? The details are endless. I don't even need to say more.
  • Even things like meals that one family member may like more than the other. You always make certain that we are all covered with things we like (even though we aren't that picky).

There is so much to be thankful for with you. We are so lucky. Now we have a new addition who will get to enjoy the level of detail you provide to his life. He has no idea what he is in getting himself into.

So I have to finish by thanking you. As we approach our anniversary I am reminded how perfect our lives have been the past 2 decades or so. Every day I love you more. Every day I find new reasons to love you. You even make me being away tolerable with the way you make my weekends special.

You are simply the best thing that has ever happened to me. Your are the best thing that has ever happened to all of us.

All my love forever.

I miss you. Writing this made me miss you more.

The Worst Poem Ever

It has been a goal of mine in this blog to write you something memorable. Something like a poem or a song. I try honey, I really do. I just lack that kind of talent.

So instead I thought I would simply list some random thoughts I have been having about you lately. Together they make kind a poem of sorts, but without that artsy feel.

  • When you told me about the stuff your were putting on your eyes all I could think was that I never would have noticed the lines. I simply can't see past the eyes themselves.
  • The late night conversations we had while I was in Vegas are exactly the reason our relationship is so special. Every person I told about them seemed almost jealous that they weren't doing the same with their spouse. It was the perfect way to end every day.
  • Do you notice that I wear cologne on days when I am leaving you so that my last hug leaves you with my smell? That is why I had to spray the bed when I left for Vegas. I know I miss your smell when i am gone and I hoped you missed mine too.
  • Sadly, I have been thinking about Broccoli Soup all week. As of now I am about 24 hours away from a steaming bowlful.
  • I think your presidential chair is just perfect for you. I also think it is really cute that you call it the presidential chair.
  • Our bed really looks great. You really have a flair for that stuff. Over nearly 20 years I have simply come to expect that you will have our home looking perfect. Your meticulous attention to detail makes all the difference.
  • Is it wrong that I was so fascinated with the fact that you got new underwear? I really did just look forward to seeing them every night. I know I need help.
  • Friday night was just wonderful. After being away for so long, it had a first date feel to it. Amazingly we can still create that kind of romance between us after 20 years.

OK so it isn't a poem. But it is still cool. What is so cool is that our life together has so many little, unexpected moments that make the whole thing so perfect. Small things that fit together into such an important big thing.

I love you my beautiful bride. Every moment of every day.
